SOME PLACES OF INTEREST THAT ARE ACCESSIBLE BY BUS

BOURNEMOUTH, a first-class resort with miles of clean sandy beach, safe bathing, and a sheltered location. Beautifully laid out parks and gardens, an excellent shopping centre, theatres, cinemas, an ice rink, shows, night clubs and casinos make a visit worth while for everyone.

BEAULIEU ABBEY and MONTAGU MOTOR MUSEUM, the ruins of a Cistercian Abbey in a beautiful riverside setting, the grounds of Palace House, home of Lord Montagu. Also in the grounds the Motor Museum, a famous collection of old and interesting vehicles

COMPTON ACRES, a series of wonderful gardens, open to the public and located between Bournemouth and Poole.

MAIDEN CASTLE, near Dorchester, is the largest prehistoric settlement in Great Britain. The castle is about 2 miles walk from the nearest bus stop.

NEW FOREST is crossed by several bus routes which provide an ideal means of seeing the wonderful and varied Forest scenery.

POOLE, an old town with ships, quay and many ancient buildings. There is also the 100-acre Poole Park with a boating lake, miniature railway anda Children's Zoo.

SALISBURY, a city with many ancient and interesting buildings, a busy market and a very fine Early English Cathedral. Nearby is Old Sarum, the site of the original town and cathedral.

SANDBANKS, a favourite bathing spot with a wide clean sandy beach which is located near Poole and Bournemouth. Over the ferry is Shell Bay, an area of wide beaches, wild heather and sand dunes.

SHAFTESBURY, an interesting town with many antiquities. The bus route from Bournemouth passes through some remarkable Dorset countryside.

SOUTHAMPTON, being a major passenger seaport, the Docks are a great attraction with the great transatlantic liners (QE2, etc.). The city also has an excellent shopping centre and many parts of old Southampton still exist.

SWANAGE, a pleasant little seaside resort dominated by the Purbeck Hills. A good starting point for some very enjoyable walks along the clifftops of the Dorset coast.

WAREHAM, an ancient town which is still surrounded by earthen walls. Here are some pleasant riverside walks and an interesting church with many Saxon features visible even today. Here is also the tomb of Lawrence of Arabia.

WIMBORNE, a pleasant market town with a remarkable Minster church and a model village which is well worth a visit.

WINCHESTER, the 'capital' of Hampshire, is typical of the many ancient towns in this area. The principal features here are the Cathedral, the College and St Cross Hospital where the visitor can ask for the 'Wayfarer's Dole'.

These are a few of the many interesting places in this area. In fact many of the bus routes in Hampshire, Wiltshire and Dorset go through pleasant villages, rich scenery and small interesting market towns. Travelling by bus is the easiest and most convenient way to see all that there is to see.
