BOURNEMOUTH,
a first-class resort with miles of
clean sandy beach, safe bathing, and
a sheltered location. Beautifully
laid out parks and gardens, an excellent
shopping centre, theatres, cinemas,
an ice rink, shows, night clubs and
casinos make a visit worth while for
everyone.

BEAULIEU
ABBEY and MONTAGU MOTOR MUSEUM,
the ruins of a Cistercian Abbey in
a beautiful riverside setting, the
grounds of Palace House, home of Lord
Montagu. Also in the grounds the Motor
Museum, a famous collection of old
and interesting vehicles

COMPTON
ACRES, a series of wonderful
gardens, open to the public and located
between Bournemouth and Poole.
|
|
MAIDEN
CASTLE, near Dorchester, is
the largest prehistoric settlement
in Great Britain. The castle is about
2 miles walk from the nearest bus
stop.

NEW
FOREST is crossed by several
bus routes which provide an ideal
means of seeing the wonderful and
varied Forest scenery.

|
POOLE,
an old town with ships, quay and many
ancient buildings. There is also the
100-acre Poole Park with a boating
lake, miniature railway anda Children's
Zoo.

|
SALISBURY,
a city with many ancient and interesting
buildings, a busy market and a very
fine Early English Cathedral. Nearby
is Old Sarum, the site of the original
town and cathedral.

SANDBANKS,
a favourite bathing spot with a wide
clean sandy beach which is located
near Poole and Bournemouth. Over the
ferry is Shell Bay, an area of wide
beaches, wild heather and sand dunes.

SHAFTESBURY,
an interesting town with many antiquities.
The bus route from Bournemouth passes
through some remarkable Dorset countryside.

SOUTHAMPTON,
being a major passenger seaport, the
Docks are a great attraction with
the great transatlantic liners (QE2,
etc.). The city also has an excellent
shopping centre and many parts of
old Southampton still exist.

SWANAGE,
a pleasant little seaside resort dominated
by the Purbeck Hills. A good starting
point for some very enjoyable walks
along the clifftops of the Dorset
coast.

WAREHAM,
an ancient town which is still surrounded
by earthen walls. Here are some pleasant
riverside walks and an interesting
church with many Saxon features visible
even today. Here is also the tomb
of Lawrence of Arabia.

WIMBORNE,
a pleasant market town with a remarkable
Minster church and a model village
which is well worth a visit.

WINCHESTER,
the 'capital' of Hampshire, is typical
of the many ancient towns in this
area. The principal features here
are the Cathedral, the College and
St Cross Hospital where the visitor
can ask for the 'Wayfarer's Dole'.

These are a few of the
many interesting places in this area.
In fact many of the bus routes in
Hampshire, Wiltshire and Dorset go
through pleasant villages, rich scenery
and small interesting market towns.
Travelling by bus is the easiest and
most convenient way to see all that
there is to see.
