| Southampton Corporation Transport
Department ran trams and buses from 1879, becoming
Southampton City Transport Department in 1964 when
Southampton gained city status. In 1986 the council
set up Southampton Citybus Ltd which was sold to
its management and staff in 1993. This company was
then sold to First Bus group in 1997. In 2022 First
Bus announced that it would withdraw from Southampton
at the end of services on Saturday the 18th of February
2023. |
