Netley Abbey is a village on Southampton Water. It includes the Royal Victoria Country Park, fomerly the site of a large military hospital. Along Victoria Road on the way to Woolston there are the ruins of the abbey. There are paths through the Royal Victoria Country Park, including routes to and from Hamble and Netley Stations. There is a cafe and visitor centre. A miniature railway runs at weekends and during school holidays (diesel with occasional steam). From Netley Village - Junction of Victoria Road and Station Road. Click a location to go there. Distances are estimated.
Bursledon 3.40mi / 5.47km - along Station Road which becomes Hound Way and then Hound Road. Turn left in to Hamble Lane and follow Hamble Lane B3397 to the pedestrian crossing at Lowford Hill. Turn right on to Lowford Hill which joins Portsmouth Road. Continue through Lowford to the A27 and turn right. This road becomes Oakhill for a short distance and then Bridge Road. At the bottom of a hill you will see a railway bridge. Turn right immediately before the bridge in to Church Lane, then bear left in to Station Road.
Bursledon 4.27mi / 6.87km - along Station Road which becomes Hound Way and then Hound Road. Turn left in to Hamble Lane and follow this road to the Tesco store. Turn right on to Providence Hill A27. This road becomes Oakhill for a short distance and then Bridge Road. At the bottom of a hill you will see a railway bridge. Hamble 2.60mi / 4.18km - with your back to Station Road, turn left along Victoria Road to the entrance to the Royal Victoria Country Park. Follow the road parallel to the shore and take the steps down to the beach. Walk along the beach, passing the oil terminal, to the car park at Hamble Point. At high tide you may prefer to take the path and road running behind the shore and will certainly need to use the wall in front of the oil terminal. The path at the Hamble end has suffered from erosion. From Hamble Point, cross the road and take the path parallel to the road. At the end of the path, join the road and turn right in to School Lane. At the end of School Lane turn right to Hamble Square and down to the quay.
The shore near the Royal Victoria Country Park is difficult when the tide is fully in because of concrete slipways and an overhanging tree.
Hamble 3.06mi / 4.92km - along Station Road which becomes Hound Way and then Hound Road. Turn right on to Hamble Lane and follow this road through Hamble village and Hamble Square to Hamble Quay.

Take the A27 in the direction of West End Road and turn right shortly afterwards in to St John's Road. Follow ths road down in to Hedge End.

Continue along the A27 which changes name again to Church Hill and then Swaythling Road. At Allington Lane roundabout continue along the A27, or take the footpath on the Townhill Way side and rejoin the A27 further along. The name changes yet again, this time to Mansbridge Road.
West End 5.83mi / 9.38km - along Station Road which becomes Hound Way and then Hound Road. Turn left in to Hamble Lane and follow this road to the Tesco store. Take the A27 in the direction of West End Road and stay on this road to the next roundabout at Kanes Hill. Cross Thornhill Park Road A334 and turn left on to that road. By the bus stop, turn right on to the footpath and follow this to its end where it rejoins the A27, now Moorhill Road. Continue along the A27 which changes name again to Church Hill. At the traffic lights, turn right on to West End High Street B3035.
Woolston 2.60mi / 4.18km - along Victoria Road, Abbey Hill, Weston Parade (Weston Shore) from which a path passes Southampton Sailing Club to Victoria Road (Woolston). Follow Victoria Road to Woolston centre.
