Airport 1.40mi / 2.25km - From the old bridge take one of these routes to the A27: (1) a short path leads directly to the road, turn left onto the road and over the bridge. (2) a path leads from the other side of the bridge and joins the A27 at Itchenside Close (0.10mi). Once on the A27, follow this road to the roundabout at the Fleming Arms. Turn right on to Wide Lane and continue on this road to the airport.
Bursledon 5.19mi / 8.35km - From the old bridge, take the short path directly up to the A27 (you can go under the road bridge to the White Swan but you will need to cross the road there). Follow the road up a short steep hill and pass the entrance to Haskins. Either cross the road here or take the footpath off to the right. At the roundabout, go straight across. Go straight across at the traffic lights and up Church Hill. After passing West End Road and Cheriton Avenue on your right, cross the road. The footpath separates from the road and takes you to Thornhill Park Road near Kanes Hill roundabout. Turn left to the roundabout, cross Thornhill Park Road and bear round to the right. The road goes down a hill and up the other side. Continue to the large roundabout where you need to stay on the A27, passing to the left of the Tesco store. This is Providence Hill which becomes Oakhill and then Bridge Road. At the railway bridge, turn right in to Church Lane and left in to Station Road.
Hamble 7.20mi / 11.59km - From the old bridge, take the short path directly up to the A27 (you can go under the road bridge to the White Swan but you will need to cross the road there). Follow the road up a short steep hill and pass the entrance to Haskins. Either cross the road here or take the footpath off to the right. At the roundabout, go straight across. Go straight across at the traffic lights and up Church Hill. After passing West End Road and Cheriton Avenue on your right, cross the road. The footpath separates from the road and takes you to Thornhill Park Road near Kanes Hill roundabout. Turn left to the roundabout, cross Thornhill Park Road and bear round to the right. The road goes down a hill and up the other side. Continue to the large roundabout where you need to turn off the A27, passing to the right of the Tesco store. This is Hamble Lane which takes you directly to Hamble.
Hedge End 3.66mi / 5.89km - From the old bridge, take the short path directly up to the A27 (you can go under the road bridge to the White Swan but you will need to cross the road there). Follow the road up a short steep hill and pass the entrance to Haskins. Either cross the road here or take the footpath off to the right. At the roundabout, go straight across. Go straight across at the traffic lights and up Church Hill. After passing West End Road and Cheriton Avenue on your right, cross the road. The footpath separates from the road and takes you to Thornhill Park Road near Kanes Hill roundabout. Turn left to the roundabout, cross Thornhill Park Road and bear round to the right. Cross at the pedestrian crossing and follow the cycle route to Upper Northam Drive, the old road to Hedge End. Go under the Motorway bridge. The road becomes Upper Northam Close and meets Upper Northam Road B3036. Turn right on to this road for Hedge End village centre.
Hedge End 4.50mi / 7.24km - From the old bridge, take the short path directly up to the A27 (you can go under the road bridge to the White Swan but you will need to cross the road there). Follow the road up a short steep hill and pass the entrance to Haskins. Either cross the road here or take the footpath off to the right. At the roundabout, go straight across. Go straight across at the traffic lights and up Church Hill. After passing West End Road and Cheriton Avenue on your right, cross the road. The footpath separates from the road and takes you to Thornhill Park Road near Kanes Hill roundabout. Turn left to the roundabout, cross Thornhill Park Road and bear round to the right. The road goes down a hill and up the other side. At the top of the hill, turn left in to St John's Road B3033. This road takes you directly to Hedge End village centre.
Lower Swanwick 5.29mi / 8.51km - From the old bridge, take the short path directly up to the A27 (you can go under the road bridge to the White Swan but you will need to cross the road there). Follow the road up a short steep hill and pass the entrance to Haskins. Either cross the road here or take the footpath off to the right. At the roundabout, go straight across. Go straight across at the traffic lights and up Church Hill. After passing West End Road and Cheriton Avenue on your right, cross the road. The footpath separates from the road and takes you to Thornhill Park Road near Kanes Hill roundabout. Turn left to the roundabout, cross Thornhill Park Road and bear round to the right. The road goes down a hill and up the other side. Continue to the large roundabout where you need to stay on the A27, passing to the left of the Tesco store. This is Providence Hill which becomes Oakhill and then Bridge Road. Pass under the railway bridge and over the river Hamble. This is Lower Swanwick.
 
Netley 6.60mi / 10.62km - From the old bridge, take the short path directly up to the A27 (you can go under the road bridge to the White Swan but you will need to cross the road there). Follow the road up a short steep hill and pass the entrance to Haskins. Either cross the road here or take the footpath off to the right. At the roundabout, go straight across. Go straight across at the traffic lights and up Church Hill. After passing West End Road and Cheriton Avenue on your right, cross the road. The footpath separates from the road and takes you to Thornhill Park Road near Kanes Hill roundabout. Turn left to the roundabout, cross Thornhill Park Road and bear round to the right. The road goes down a hill and up the other side. Continue to the large roundabout where you need to turn off the A27, passing to the right of the Tesco store. This is Hamble Lane. Follow this road until the junction of Hound Road where you turn right. Hound Road becomes Hound Way and, at Netley station, Station Road.
Portswood 2.08mi / 3.35km - From the old bridge take one of these routes to the A27: (1) a short path leads directly to the road, turn left onto the road and over the bridge. (2) a path leads from the other side of the bridge and joins the A27 at Itchenside Close (0.10mi / 0.16km). Once on the A27, follow this road to the roundabout at the Fleming Arms. Continue towards the railway arch but turn left in to Wessex Lane before reaching it. (If you carry on through the arch, turn left and go through Swaythling). At the end of Wessex Lane turn right on to Woodmill Lane. Go over the railway and road bridges and turn left at the traffic lights. Follow Portswood Road to Portswood.
Swaythling 0.88mi / 1.42km - From the old bridge take one of these routes to the A27: (1) a short path leads directly to the road, turn left onto the road and over the bridge. (2) a path leads from the other side of the bridge and joins the A27 at Itchenside Close (0.10mi / 0.16km). Once on the A27, follow this road to the roundabout at the Fleming Arms. Continue through the railway arch and turn left. Staying on this road, pass Swaythling station and cross Thomas Lewis Way.
West End 1.69mi / 2.72km - From the old bridge, take the short path directly up to the A27 (you can go under the road bridge to the White Swan but you will need to cross the road there). Follow the road up a short steep hill and pass the entrance to Haskins. Either cross the road here or take the footpath off to the right. At the roundabout, go straight across. Turn left at the traffic lights, up West End High Street.
Woodmill 0.55mi / 0.89km - Follow the path alongside the river through Riverside Park to Woodmill Lane. The Mansbridge end of this path is liable to flooding.
Woodmill 1.30mi / 2.09km - From the old bridge take one of these routes to the A27: (1) a short path leads directly to the road, turn left onto the road and over the bridge. (2) a path leads from the other side of the bridge and joins the A27 at Itchenside Close (0.10mi / 0.16km). Once on the A27, follow this road to the roundabout at the Fleming Arms. Keep to the left towards the railway arch but turn left in to Wessex Lane and at the end of that road turn left in to Woodmill Lane.

Steep hills - The A27 eastwards includes a short, steep hill shortly after leaving Mansbridge, a long climb up from the junction of the B3035 West End High Street and another after a downhill section between Kanes Hill roundabout and the junction of the B3033 St John's Road. There is also a steep hill from Lower Swanwick to Sarisbury.
 
Flooding
The area around Mansbridge is prone to flooding, particularly just on the Riverside Park side of the old bridge.
Please take extra care if walking or running close to the edge of the path or if ice is present.
